Winners of the 2012-2013 Distinguished Technical Communication Award and the 2012-2013 Excellence Award in the local chapter may go on to the International Technical Communication Summit Awards Competition. Winning entries in that competition are displayed at the annual STC Technical Summit in May.

Best of Show candidates exhibit the ideal for their category. They are not judged against each other; they are judged solely against established standards for their respective documentation type. Of the Distinguished entries nominated for Best of Show, the entry that comes closest to the ideal for its category is the Best of Show.
